About Me
23-year-old qualified teacher from Southend with a passion for astrophysics, creativity, and helping students achieve their potential
My Teaching Journey
I am a 23 year old from Southend, and have just completed my PGCE year as a teacher of science in East London. I have a passion for learning and for science, especially astrophysics! In my spare time, I like to unwind by painting or by running community Dungeons and Dragons sessions, and I think that my creativity brings me a unique perspective when solving the logical problems of maths and physics.
My Teaching Philosophy
My approach to tutoring uses the skills I have recently learned during my PGCE without the limits of a thirty-student classroom. In a session, I am able to focus on the student's personal goals, weaknesses, and strengths, while also using techniques such as scaffolding, formative assessment, and chunking to create the ideal learning environment.
For each new tutee, I provide a diagnostic test to see their strengths and weaknesses by topic as well by types of exam question. With these tests, I can then structure sessions to delve into the topics they struggle in, and building a bridge from previous knowledge and strengths to these weaker areas.
Then, I can provide practice questions in the style of question they struggle with. This builds confidence, understanding, and ability. I will teach students how to do well in their exams while building their general idea of the incredible ways which science and maths link all things together.
My Teaching Approach
Making Learning Engaging
I use interactive techniques like role-play and storytelling to bring physics and maths to life. This helps students connect with complex topics and remember them better, making lessons enjoyable rather than intimidating.
Research-backed teaching methodsUnderstanding How Students Learn
I've studied how different students learn best, adapting my explanations to match each student's learning style. Whether you're a visual learner, prefer hands-on activities, or need step-by-step breakdowns, I'll find the approach that works for you.
